Beshalach: When He Sent

Torah Portion: Exodus 13:17-17:16
Gospel Portion: Matthew 14:22-33

This portion starts off with the Israelites leaving Egypt and the dramatic conclusion of the Egyptian army lost to the sea.  The joyous highs are met with some grumbling lows, when YHVH’s (God’s) people face bitter water and hunger.

Bitter Water Project

“They came to Marah, but they could not drink the water at Marah because it was bitter — that is why it was named Marah. The people grumbled to Moses, “What are we going to drink? ” So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he threw it into the water, the water became drinkable.”
